2024. This cheerful piece is not heartwarming. Made from reclaimed felt and old t-shirt, dyed with tumeric, sweet pea, and rust. Made in an attempt to patch a leaking portal with absolute tools.
During it's creation, my primary aim was to explore whether the sewing machine could be used to create intricate shapes without pulling the piece off the needle. Using my mom's sewing machine from the 80s presented a challenge for this piece because it was too thick. The available presser foot couldn't hold the fabric right, and replacements are no longer sold. The arm that holds the foot has been made non-universal. Needles snapped, breaking and throwing shards.
The history is reflected in the broken strings and points where the pattern disconnected. Not at all what I set out to make - one can relate to being a disappointment to one's creator -
Unique item. 8" in diameter. Ships with a certificate of authenticity. Email picklestobetsy@gmail.com after ordering if you would like me to install a cloth loop for hanging.
