With this piece, I experimented with transparency. How few layers of base plastic were needed? How hot could the iron get before it stretched a hole in the plastic? This was important because I was trying to melt the smaller pieces, made of crispier soft plastic - the kind sometimes lined with a silver, metallic looking plastic, other times lined with a thinner, transparent plastic skin. Neither of these types of plastics melts well, but the reward for success is more vibrant colors. In the end, most of these pieces stuck in some places and needed to be stitched in others.
The red of the poppy flower in the upper right corner is from a biodegradable plastic, so this piece will reveal the relationship between truth and gimmick over time.
