Pressed from a gelli plate — textured, raw, and emotionally charged. With ochre stains and a singular blue mark, RED | In The Face explores the tension between instinct and control. Own a print that honors the heat beneath the skin of our thoughts.
RED | In The Face is an abstract portrait of restraint, pressed through tomato-hued pigments. A gelli plate study drenched in volatile red —textured, smeared, disrupted — with blue impressions and ochre stains surfacing like bruises. The work doesn’t reflect a specific moment, but something primal: that flicker of heat when human connection short-circuits. Rage. Shame. Blunt emotion beneath the surface.
This is not violence, but the emotional intensity of it. The idea of it. A shadow ritual for what we often feel but rarely say. In Liz Awesome’s practice, color isn’t decorative — it’s devotional. The red here is not just red; it’s tomato-flesh, body-blood, ancestral fruit.
This print is sometimes layered under images of tomatoes grown byHector, shifting their hue, grounding their symbolism. Red is lineage.Red is reaction. The blue mark near the bottom reads like an afterthought — a splatter, a gesture — but carries the weight of interruption. The ochre stains? Sacred mess. Stains are stories. And sometimes, the most spiritual thing an artist can do is not clean it up.
RED | In The Face belongs to Collage is Kadosh, a series that sanctifies intensity, vulnerability, and emotional risk. This is not a peaceful print or a protest print. It’s not meant to be. It invites reckoning. It mirrors the moment before words — before forgiveness — when we’re still deciding whether to shout, strike, or stand still.
