2024. I collected plastic from each member of a found family and pressed a decorative tapestry with a flower shape representing each person. I sewed meditation paths over the flowers. Basting tape is used to secure the edges.
When I was doing research on ketubahs, I learned that a ketubah is kosher if it "includes the covenant." I tried to track that down, and... well, if you know, you know. With that in mind, if it were ever to become necessary to create a ketubah without a scribe and no one in the house knew any Hebrew, why couldn't we create one by bringing our post consumer trash into a common bin and finding artistic ways to smush it together for as long as plastic lasts?
Unlike most pieces in this series, this piece is not sewn on. The black plastic bag and the translucent skin plastic found under the brightly decorated pieces merge together very easily. This may create an ethical temptation, but we know it is forbidden to use this practice on virgin trash bags.
Lined with basting tape.
