"In this series, Liz Awesome explores the balance - an imbalance - of shared spaces, particularly in contrasting medical waiting rooms and art galleries. When considering the experience of all Sacramentans, many are destined to spend their time navigating waiting rooms, impersonal protocol, and a retracted palate of art presented in those spaces. Liz explores imagery taken from medical and art spaces around Sacramento, recontextualizing restrictions, obstacles, and livability in the context of art experience.
Are those of us who have to spend more time navigating the health system resigned to experience a vibrant art scene only through social media, or can we reimagine art to include more of us? In what ways can a more robust artistic experience help create balance and positive experiences when navigating the health system?"

In addition to creating posters for this show, I also spent time exploring the space and interconnections between other works in the show. Angela Dee Alforque's past wove into mine, Ember DeBoer's sculptures became a frame, Michael LaHood anchored us in place, Amber Rankin took us home, Erica Jacobs-Ware showed us the best of what is and what could be, and Kevin Zupancic and Rogue Music Project clung to our humanity.
As we said again and again during the exhibition period, this is the start of a conversation, not the end. I can feel something brewing and I am so excited to keep sharing.
