2025. This book was created through a series of frustrating accidents. The sewing machine wasn’t working as expected, and I was all set up to learn how to make resilient bags out of my plastiche material. The sewing machine couldn’t be made to cooperate and more and more material was being practiced on toward what felt like no purpose.
I decided to stop fighting it, and rework those sheets of plastic into a sampler of fussy sewing machine expression. I layered up the materials that hadn’t come together the way I’d planned - patches and threads - and started working them into a sticker book.
Into the sticker book, I affixed packing tape and other adhesives from here and there. The RUINED patch on the cover is from a paper plate that held metal that was left to rust.
Now it’s reminiscent of the my garbage can and the secret life of things within it. I hope it finds a home in a collection looking for the answers it contains.
